Our clients frequently tell us how much they appreciate our launch from the west side of Lummi Island. Rather than spending a significant portion of sailing time just getting out there, our launch location means that from the moment you step aboard, you're surrounded by island beauty.

We pride ourselves on providing customized sailing experiences. If you'd like a different launch site (for example Eastsound on Orcas Island or Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, or the Mainland) or if there's a particular place you want to go or a vision you have of how you might spend your time aboard, we'll do our best to accommodate.

If you're looking for some suggestions please read on to learn about some of our most popular, tried and true sailing options:

Day Sails

Day Sails Price: $125/person (children under 16 half price, under 5 free) (book it!)

Matia Island State Park - Accessible only by private boat, Matia is approximately a hour and a half sail each way from Lummi. We allow time for those who wish to take a lovely one-mile hike on a trail that winds through dense redwood forests, peeking out from time to time on beautiful coves and hidden beaches. Pack your own lunch, or let us provide a gourmet box lunch for you. (book it!)

Eastsound - If bookstores, galleries, and restaurants are more your style, sail with us to Eastsound on Orcas Island. Once ashore, an easy thirty-minute walk (or short taxi ride) takes you into town. (book it!)

*If you're looking for a fuller sailing day with a mix of wilderness and charming town life, try this: sail to Matia and enjoy the beautiful one-mile hike, then continue under sail to Eastsound to enjoy some gallery hopping, bookstore browsing or a pleasant meal before sailing home to Lummi Island at Sunset. If this is an option that interests you, contact Captain Charlie for price and availability.

Day sails typically last around 5-6 hours, leaving Lummi Island in the 10:00 hour.

Sunset Sails

Sunset Sails Price: $110/person (children under 16 half price, under 5 free) (book it!)

Nothing beats a summer sunset in the Pacific Northwest, except perhaps enjoying it from the water. Depending on the prevailing winds, these sails take us towards Matia, Orcas, or Clark Islands, or along the beautiful Lummi Island shoreline.

Sunset cruises are typically around 3 1/2 hours in duration. Our departure and return times vary seasonally.

Overnight Sails

Overnight Sails Price: $250/person per day (children under 16 half price, under 5 free) (book it!)

Sail with us for two days or more and not only will you have the pleasure of going to sleep and waking up to the gentle rocking of the ocean, but the opportunities for you to customize your experience really come into play.

The trips below are ones we do with some regularity. That said, our guests often exercise the option to change course en route: lingering a bit longer at an island that particularly strikes their fancy, or changing course when an unforeseen opportunity catches their interest.

Sucia Island State Park - 2 days, 1 night or longer
Want to go camping and hiking but not have to pitch a tent, plan your meals, or carry any gear? Sucia Island, accessible only by private boat, offers wonderful opportunities for beach-walking, exploration of the China Man caves, and over twenty miles of hiking trails. When you come back to the boat after an afternoon of hiking, we'll have dinner ready and the sheets turned down. Watch out, you may never backpack again! (book it!)

Orcas Circumnavigation - 2 days, 1 night
Sail from Lummi to Roche Harbor or Friday Harbor (both on San Juan Island) on day one, explore on shore exploration before dinner and a night on the boat. Then complete the loop and head home on the second day. (book it!)

Victoria, British Columbia and Butchart Gardens - 3 days, 2 nights or longer
Setting sail from the west side of Lummi Island, we head for Brentwood Bay, just north of Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The full day sail to Brentwood Bay takes us through some of the most beautiful waters in the San Juans. On your second day, enjoy breakfast on board, then take a short walk to Butchart Gardens to stroll in one the top rated gardens in the world (visit www.butchartgardens.com.) On the third day, either return to Lummi or catch a bus or taxi into the heart of Victoria - a lovely town to wander through for a day. For those of you who choose to stay an extra day in Victoria, we pull up anchor on the morning of day four and head home. (book it!)

Princess Louise Inlet, British Columbia - 4 - 10 days
Leaving from Granville Island in the heart of Vancouver we sail north along the Sunshine Coast to Jervis Inlet. Upon entering the fiords we head toward Princess Louise Inlet and the famous Chatterbox Falls. This area has been described as an underwater Yosemite, with thousand foot waterfalls around every bend and is among the most scenic areas you could ever hope to visit. Join us for the full round-trip, or, if your time is short, meet us farther north near the mouth of the inlet. This trip can be as short as four nights or as long as ten. Waterfalls flow most abundantly in the spring (late May is perfect) but we'll gladly head north to this magical area at any time during the sailing season. (book it!)

Paint and Sail - 3 days, 2 nights
Our passengers tell us that they're never short of painting subject matter on these beautiful weekend instructional cruises. Each day includes formal painting instruction with a visiting artist, focused time for painting either aboard the boat or on land, and (of course) some beautiful sailing. Each passenger supplies his/her own painting supplies (supply list provided). Consult Captain Charlie for additional instructional expenses. (book it!)

Sip and Sail - 3 days, 2 nights
The San Juan archipelago is home to a number of fine wineries. Each day of this three-day sail ends at a winery. Enjoy the tastes of San Juan, Orcas, and Lopez islands. A wine-expert travels with us throughout. Consult Captain Charlie for additional fees. (book it!)

Special Events

La Conner Tulip Festival - 3 days, 2 nights
Sail with us to Beautiful, historic La Conner. On your second day, rent a car or bicycle (were happy to help with these arrangements) to access some of the most spectacular tulip fields you'll ever see this side of Holland. Spend your second night back on the boat in the La Conner Channel before sailing back to Lummi Island on day three. (book it!)

Summer Sailstice - 2 days, 1 night
Sail your way into the longest day of the year! Contact Captain Charlie for details. (book it!)

Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival - 6 days, 5 nights
Special festival price - $795/person includes travel aboard Happy Talk to and from the festival, meals while en route, and accommodations and full festival passes. This was one of the highlight trips in 2008. Again this year, we'll launch from Bellingham and take our time going south through the islands, spending the first night at anchor. The next morning we head to Port Townsend for the show, returning on Monday, following the festival. This is the trip for anyone who loves wooden boats, a historic seaside town, and sea chanteys (not to mention jazz, folk, and blues - you get the idea!) Sail Away provides all the festival goodies including passes to workshops, lectures, music and more. The dates for this trip are Wednesday, September 9 through Monday, September 14th. (book it!)

2010 Shaw Island Classic Regatta - If you have always wanted to be part of a sailing race, then join us as we circumnavigate Shaw Island, surrounded by one hundred other sailboats! It will be our second year to enter this classic regatta. This one-day race begins and ends in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Join us for the entire weekend, departing from and arriving back to Lummi Island or join us just for the day of the race. Either option includes official race t-shirt, post-race Lasagna Dinner and a real life trophy (if) when we win! August 7 - Join us just for Race Day (August 7) only, or for a full weekend of sailing Aug. 6-8)!
